S’up? Happy Friday!!  Wisconsin is going to beat Ole Miss today, right?

I haven’t done this in awhile, so I am going to post from the month

Norah was so proud of the pillowcase she designed (picked the fabrics) and sewed for her big brother for his birthday.

I made a million and one cake pops (minus the stick. so cake balls) for Aidan’s birthday. White oreo for school, red velvet for the parties.

I got to spend a whirlwind 24 hours in Chicago with my Trish. Short but wonderful.

My dog has been helping himself to our recycling lately (we have a bin in the basement, where we toss everything before we haul it outside to the big bin). You like that basement carpet? Pretty rad. I like to think its chevron.

Made this pillowcase as a belated birthday gift for my dear friend Heather. With a little help from my dear friend Alyson.

Buck’s latest Bark Box. He loves them! I am so happy we signed up. Its fun to get new toys and treats each month (and they are natural, which I love). Want to try it? Here’s $5 off.  (shout out to the Vintage Modern Wife, where I first heard about Bark Box).

Way back when we were young. 1998? I think.  Worst bridesmaid dress alterations ever. Mine gave me bruised ribs. Another BM had ski slope looking boobs. And another was swimming in her dress.

And last, but not least, playing their duet.  Sometimes they can get along (as evidenced by a recent video I posted on Facebook). Its rare, but it happens.

Insta Friday- February 2013

2.08.2013

Insta Friday.

Exciting moments:

I finally got a vintage globe thanks to a friend who picked one up at an estate sale for me.

and I also got my Hello sweatshirt from Hello Apparel in the mail

This was possibly the best sangria ever. Wildberry elderflower. And a vat of it.

Spent the day snuggling with two of my boys. One was sick. We rented Hotel Transylvania . Holy cuteness!!!!

My dog may be hairy (ughhh), but he never passes up a chance to snuggle like he thinks he’s a 10lb lap dog.

My baby starts middle school next year. Oh my oh my oh my.  We have an option to try an enroll him in the middle school STEM* school (that’s housed inside the middle school). So we submitted our application. Its a lottery and only 30 kids in 6th grade get in. There are over 800 kids in the middle school (grades 6-7-8). I am not holding my breath, but we would be over the moon if he got in. Its right up his alley. And the idea of project based learning, presenting your project, and mixed grades? Awesome. That’s how the real world works. We shall see.  Do y’all have STEM schools where you live?

*science technology engineering math

My first hoop that I stitched! Its far from perfect, but its a start. Norah is so excited for me to teach her how to do it. It will be cute for her to learn how.

We got dumped on last night.  First big snow of the winter. We made it till Feb. Hard to believe.  It was a long walk to school, what with some unshoveled sidewalks and the kids and dog wanting to jump in every snow bank.

Morning playtime. Most mornings, I walk the dawg to the park and we play. He loves his friend Lola. I love that he is dog tired when we get home.

InstaFriday {01.18.13}

1.18.2013

Cellphone photo simplicity. A peek into our lives.

Its chilly outside, so they needed to warm up.  Plus I needed to capture how she loves to wear this hat 24/7.

Joann had cute fabric! And a 60% off home dec fabric sale! So I snatched up a few yards of this to make a cover for the dog’s crate, since its hanging out behind our couch. We’re topping it w/ a board then this cloth and trying to pretend its a pretty table for the next 2 years.

Aidan studied for hours on spellingcity.com for the spelling bee that he was in yesterday. He took 4th. The top 3 advanced on to the District bee. We were still very proud of him and treated him to a giant ice cream sundae.

My feelings on Wisconsin in winter. Seriously. No one should have to tolerate 20 or 30 BELOW ZERO temps. Its inhumane.

My puppy was sick this past weekend. I took him to the vet and after coming home with a much lighter purse, he was rehydrated and medicated and given special food. He’s still on the mend (we suspect he ate something toxic in the back yard. I think I have quite a few plants that will need to be moved come spring!), and he’s been nothing but uber snuggly this week. I’ve gotten NOTHING done because how can you resist it? He’s my last baby!

The one thing I did get done: I booked our condo for Florida in June when my mom and I will go with Norah to her AAU Nationals gymnastics meet. This is right next to Disney, so we’ll be going there (but she doesn’t know that. so that will be an awesome surprise!)

It’s Friday.

11.09.2012

If we were having coffee this week, I’d share a few things with you.

First, I’d share that next week, I’ll be doing my first Coffee Date vlog (I don’t like that word. It makes me shiver). I am nervous. I hate my voice and being on camera.  So come by and check it out and comment, ok? Because I don’t want to feel even more self-conscious.  And join in on your blog, too, linking up with Alissa. Next week’s prompt is this:

We all know the holiday season can be filled with business + stresses, what are some things you do or words of encouragement + inspiration to remind yourself to help you always choose joy in the midst of everything you’re juggling?

So anyway, if we were having coffee today, I’d tell you that I am thankful for a lot. Too much to list right now, but I want to highlight a few:

I want to share that I am thankful for friends who are always there for me.

I am thankful for my upcoming cruise to celebrate a friend’s 40th. Not only does it reunite friends, but its a ray of sunshine in an otherwise dreary winter. We need that here in these parts to make it through our long winters, y’all.

If we were having coffee, I’d share that I am thankful that I have a home. With heat. And intact belongings. Whenever I see coverage of the destruction of Sandy, it floors me. And reminds me of Katrina and how, years later, people still haven’t rebuilt. Its all just so sad.

If we were having coffee, I’d let you know how thankful I am that my family has helped us with our kids for so many years. And how sad we’ll be when they move away to Panama, but how excited we are for them and for all the trips we have in store for us. I’d tell you how I have plans for us to learn how to surf. And how I will never eat fish or seafood- even though the ocean is in their front yard. Call me crazy, I don’t care.

And finally, if we were having coffee, I’d probably complain about the cold weather. Because that’s how I roll :)

And before you left, I’d probably whip out my phone and show you my instagram photos and ask you to show me yours. And oh? You’re not on instagram? Why not? Get on it!

Here are some.  Its been 2 weeks, so some of these are a bit old…

Birthday Twins at lunch!
Norah, daddy, and Caramel the cat

Mama and Elliott

Who hasn’t had a moment when they felt that this wine describes them at times?

Elliott competed in Combat Corner, an MMA tournament.  He took 2 silver medals home! My little brazilian jiu jitsu champ!

Less than 60 days now, but it was 60 when I posted this! Looking forward to a caribbean cruise to celebrate a friend’s 40th. Who can deny that those blue waters and white sands are drop dead gorgeous?

a cute coffee cuff from Vintage Sunshine keeping my peppermint mocha all cozy!

lest we forget what all the hubbub was about this week

we’re a bespectacled family (missing the other 2). I feel for my kids who take after their father, who has terrible eyesight!

Of dogs and donuts. And newly minted 9 year olds.

10.26.2012

{Disclaimer: Its been awhile since I’ve done an Insta-Friday, so some of these go back more than a week}

Moms of the 9 year old girl set– have you gone here yet? We’ve entered the stage where it was time to tackle these subjects. Oy vey.

Donuts! We had conferences and the kids all got rock star reports. They totally earned some Cranky Al’s donuts. And good mama refrained.

While at conferences, I spotted this gem. It made me all verklempt. I’d take her to American Girl 100x over to get things like this written.

We added a new family member to our home. He’s adjusting well when we don’t think too hard about all the pee and the chewing. Its certainly helped that he is now sleeping through the night.  Its a good thing he is so darn cute. We all do love him so.  Funny, though…the novelty of having a dog {the responsibility of it} has already worn off. I get groans when I ask certain kids to take the dog out for bathroom breaks.

I enjoyed this treat at book club earlier this week. Until then, I’d never had peanut butter on my s’mores. I think I may never go back. Its divine, I tell you. Absolute divinity.

I love this kind of peace in the morning. And look! They are actually near each other! And not fighting!

Spotted at Goodwill: vintage costume. Who in their 30′s doesn’t remember these? That mask would crack and hurt your face. Plus you’d get all sweaty underneath it. Or that rubber band would break and your mom would try and staple it back on – multiple times. And that plastic costume. Ugh.

Think pink! Breast cancer awareness day at school.

In the words of Homer Simpson, “mmmn. beer.”
I had an opportunity to attend a meet and greet at a local brewery where I got to meet some great minds and where the beer flowed freely.

NINE years ago ….

I cannot believe its been 9 years.  I truly cannot wrap my head around it. It seriously seems like it was just yesterday.

{I couldn’t find the other photo and am too lazy to look. So instead I won’t mention which baby this is. Does that make that more fair? ;)  }

Linking up with Jeannett for her weekly series. Have you checked out the ladies who link up yet? Its such a fun, easy way to share a snapshot of what’s going on in your life and to peek into the lives of others.
