DIY gathered neck ribbon halter {a tutorial}

We all have them….those t-shirts from events that are made for both men and women.

They are boxy and well…unflattering.

But that can change, my friends!

With a few simple snips of a scissors and the ability to sew a straight stitch (or heck, even a hand stitch), you can have yourself a cute ribbon halter from that shirt that you’re required to wear to the event (or an event shirt you think is cool and just plain want to keep around).

Step 1:
Cut from the bottom of the armpit to the neck, and cut about 1″ down from the shoulder seam, across the top of the shirt, separating the back from the front.

Step 2:
Fold over about 1″ of the neckline to create a tube for the ribbon to thread through, and sew straight across. Repeat the process on the back.

Step 3:
Using a ribbon or re-purposing the bottom hem of another old t-shirt, thread it through the tube. You can either use 2 ribbons, tying at each shoulder, or 1, choosing to tie on just one shoulder. I chose 1 long ribbon.

Step 4:
Wear it!
