Teacher gifts

5.29.2011

I know that in some lucky areas, summer break has already begun. But in other parts, we’re still in school and our end of the year is soon approaching (and, um, hopefully bringing with it some warm weather. Doyouhearmemothernature??!?!)

Every year, I struggle with what to get my kids’ teachers as a parting gift.  Typically, we toss some cash towards a big group gift, but I also like to give them something to show a token of our appreciation.

Here are some ideas that I thought were really cute:

As a room mom, we’ve made “flower bouquets” out of gift cards, or I always like putting together a scrapbook with a letter from each child plus a picture they’ve drawn (for younger grades) or supplementing the letter with a school picture or pictures taken in class of each child.

We have given a dozen roses a few times and had great feedback.

Loving these ideas! I ‘m doing the first one that is the clear cups. We’re still not out for summer either.. and actually, it’s not been that warm here in CA. So, I feel for ya! ;) I might have to make that chalkboard flower pot too! Cute.

I love the way you make special gifts for your children’s teachers. In general, in Australia everyone puts money together and we buy the teacher a special gift from the whole class.

One year when I was teaching full time I was given a weekend at a hotel with massages, pedicures and a dinner voucher, too. Another year I was given a necklace and bracelet from Tiffany’s.

Now I have children at school I get the kids to make a card for their teacher and yes, we contribute to the class gift.

These are very cute! As one of the lucky ones already on summer break, we missed the boat on these ideas, but there is always next year!
